Just confirmed on WRC.com-Markko Martin will head up an Estonian Rally Team in 2006. The article says the team will run 2 Group N Subaru Impreza WRX's for Estonian's Rainer Aus and Martin Raum. They will compete in the Estonian Rally Championship. Rumours had been circulating for ages that this might be the case, but it was the first time today that I had heard it was confirmed. Apparently he hasn't ruled out a return to Rally driving in the WRC, but obviously this venture is more important to him right now. I think it's quite important for the sport too-nurturing and developing young talent cant be a bad thing!! It would be brilliant to see him back behind the wheel in the WRC one day, but for now... well done Markko!

This quote from Martin sums up the current WRC in a nutshell I think!
Martin told autosport.com this evening: "I'm definitely not thinking about coming back at the moment. I will drive something some time, somewhere, but right now I have no plans.
"The championship is a bit sh1t at the moment. And I don't have any intention of joining everybody there who is dreaming that everything is ok. It is really just the same as what I said in Autosport last week."
Martin told Autosport his career was not over despite not being in a WRC car for this season.
"This is not the end for me as a rally driver," he said last week. "I always like driving a rally car fast.
"As for this being the end for me in the world championship, I don't know. I really don't know. One thing for sure, though: you never say never."
I hope we see him back one day. Good to see someone involved with the WRC realising the emperor is not wearing anu clothes! ;D

I know what you mean Wayno. I thought it was really refreshing to read Markko's thoughts on the matter-he's never been one to mince words (I have huge respect for him because of this). He called it as it is, and there are not many who would stand up and point out the fact that everything is NOT ok in the WRC. Good on him I say! I hope it all works out for him in this new venture this year.
