In my view, Marcus Gronholm is our modern day Markku Alen. Even though I wasn't even alive in the Grp B era I looked at a Markku Alen tribute video (I can't find it anymore can youg uys help?) you can see he had a certain feel about him. A very tall impossing character. Both very fast and have some very spectacular crashes. The only difference being is Alen was World Rally Champ for 10 days in 1986 and Gronholm is a twice champion. What do you guys think. Can you think up of any more comparances.

I can't off the top of my head, but I agree with you on the points you raise. He is very much in the same estime and has similar tendancies to Markku.

It is very hard to compare drivers across these eras due to the differences in how the championship was run, the cars used and a lot of other v. subtle changes. I can see similarities but I think that Alen was more grounded than gronholm. Driving style would be interesting to compare, I have a copy of the video you talk about and personally I feel that Alen was a more impressive driver, but I think it all comes down to personal preference
